How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on GenialGable starts with one question: will this product work for the person who is shopping for it? For our golf push cart and bag guides, that means how you walk the course, how you load your bag and how much room your trunk has.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with how you walk

A 3-wheel cart, a 4-wheel cart and an electric caddy suit different golfers. A stand bag and a cart bag also carry clubs in different ways.

We check the wheel count, the folded size, the weight and how a bag fits the cart. When your trunk or your course limits the choice, we say what to check first.

2. We compare specs and features

For carts we look at frame material, brake type, handlebar adjustment, storage and how easily the frame folds. For bags we look at divider count, weight, strap design and stand strength.

CaddyTek, Bag Boy, TaylorMade and ASK ECHO describe their frames and bags in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read through what buyers report after using a cart or bag. We look for patterns, like wobbly wheels, frames that are hard to fold, stands that break, bags that don't fit a cart or straps that wear.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A cart that's great for a hilly course may score lower in a guide written for a flat one.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Many carts and bags come in several colors and bundles with similar names, so we check each model name and code, and we only link new units.

When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have used every cart or bag we cover.

Folding frames have pinch points, and electric caddies use rechargeable batteries. Follow the maker's manual for setup, folding, charging and use.

Courses set their own rules on push carts and electric caddies, so ask the pro shop at yours. We make no fitness or health claims, and when a maker makes a claim, we label it as the maker's claim.
